Is it safe to use DE to deworm my dog if she is nursing her puppies? She seems in pain and has really bad gas also. I visually saw worms in her poop and she has never been treated for worms before.

I would talk to the vet about this. Whatever you give the mother will be passed to the babies.
Hi,
You can give her Nemex 2, two weeks after giving birth. You don't want to start them (the mom and pups) before two weeks. Nemex 2 can be bought at Tractor Supply. It is an excellent wormer. I would not use DE at this time.
Blessings,
Robyn
I would call the vet and get his/her guidance. This way there is no risk to the mom or the pups! Post back what the vet says!! Blessings to the fur family! Healing prayers too!
Food grade DE may be safe but it may be too slow and maybe think about starting your mom and pups on DE after you take care of there present condition.
The pups also need to be dewormed so you should talk to your vet as there are several different types of worms so they can have more than one types - the mom and the pups. Some worms are transferable to people so talk to your vet and take care of this as soon as you can.
If you are not able to contact a vet then try talking to someone at your local Pet Smart as they usually have a vet in their stores.
This is very important and should be done very soon.
If the mom has gas it may be from the type of food she is eating so ask about that also.
You will need a vet to take care of the pups first year of shots/vaccinations so think about this as these are life saving shots (think Parvo and get the shots!).
