Diamond Post Medal for All Time! 1,246 Posts This handmade woven felt heart makes for a heartfelt gift! I love how the two pieces come together to make a gorgeous high-contrast heart. This is a great craft for all ages.
Total Time: 40 minutes
Yield: 1 heart
Supplies:
- 1 standard piece of white paper
- pencil
- scissors
- 1 piece of red felt
- 1 piece of black felt
Steps:
- Mark the paper 2.5 inches up from the bottom.
- Fold the paper once straight across at the mark.
- Cut across at the fold so you have a long 8.5 inch by 2.5 inch rectangle.
- Fold the rectangle in half.
- Trim the edges off the rectangle so they are rounded.
- Unfold the paper and place it on top of your red felt and trace around it to make a cutting guide.
- Cut out one red piece and one black piece from the pattern.
- Fold both pieces in half.
- Place the red piece over the black to form a heart shape.
- Use the pencil to mark the red felt where the black felt crosses underneath.
- Draw a line straight down the red piece, mark the black piece at the middle where the red edge touches.
- Cut a slit up the red piece on the line you drew.
- Cut another slit on both sides of the middle slit so you have four equal strips.
- Repeat with the black piece of felt. Tuck the first strip of the black felt under the first strip of the red felt. Weave over and under and over.
- Continue with the second strip, over, under, over, under.
- Continue until all pieces are woven tightly. They will hold nicely together without any help.
