Gold Post Medal for All Time! 899 Posts This yarn wrapped carrot makes a great decoration or even a fun photo prop. You can also easily make a smaller version.
Supplies:
- heavy weight orange yarn
- jumbo green rick rack
- foam cone (3.8" x 8.9")
- foam ball (4 in.)
- foam cutter or serrated knife
- hot glue gun
Steps:
- Use a foam cutter or knife to cut the foam ball in half. Test fit it on the cone to be sure it doesn't hang over the edge.
- Use hot glue to attach the ball to the end of the cone. Add extra glue to any gaps around the edge.
- Cut rick rack into equal length pieces. Put all of the ends together and wrap with tape.
- Using the foam cutter or a pointy object make a hole in the foam ball. Fill the hole with hot glue and insert the taped end of the rick rack. Allow glue to dry.
- Apply a small amount of glue near the carrot top. Adhere the end of the yarn. Applying glue as you go around, begin wrapping the foam carrot with yarn.
- Once you have wrapped past the rounded end of the carrot, you can start to wrap a few times without applying glue then glue one wrap. Work your way to the end of the carrot.
- Apply glue to the end and swirl the yarn towards the center. If you plan to wrap the carrot again, do not cut the yarn. If not, cut the yarn and adhere the end with hot glue.
- Work your way back up the carrot, again applying glue every few wraps until you reach the rounded end. Then apply glue and wrap all the way to the carrot top. Cut the yarn and adhere the end. Enjoy your carrot! :)
