My female Zebra finch laid 4 eggs. I just noticed last night that 1 egg hasn't hatched and I can only see 2 chicks. Has the other chick died and been covered?

The parents raise their babies. After 21 days, they can be on their own. I would wait and see what happens.
Now I can't see anything in the nest. The shredded papers are pushed to the side and just a round hole in the middle. How will I know if they are still alive and that the other egg hatched?. I am a bit worried as this is their first batch

This link is to Cornell Univ, and I've written them a few times over the years (regarding bird questions) and you may want to write them or look on their site to see if you can find answers to your questions.
I looked up Zebra Finches to see what they looked like, as I wasn't familiar with them, and what a beautiful bird they are, and how precious that must be, and I can relate to your concerns too. I sure hope all is well with all of them.
