Supplies:

  • Brach's Star Brite peppermint candies
  • parchment paper
  • cookie sheet
  • pot mitt
  • non stick spray
  • small glass bowl (with round bottom)

Steps:

  1. Preheat oven to 275 degrees F.
  2. Place 1 peppermint candy on a parchment lined cookie sheet. Bake for 2-2.5 minutes or until the candy is shiny and soft, but not melted and runny.
  3. Peppermint Candy Bowls - first candy on parchment paper lined sheet

Peppermint Candy Bowls - soften slightly in oven

  4. Remove the cookie sheet and place 6 candies around the center one. Be sure the candies are touching. Place the cookie sheet back into the oven for 4-5 minutes. Do not let the candies melt.
  5. Peppermint Candy Bowls - add ring of candies around the first one

Peppermint Candy Bowls - return to oven to soften

  6. Now place 12 candies around the softened ones. Again make sure they are touching. Return the cookie sheet to the oven and bake for 7 minutes, or until softened.
  7. Peppermint Candy Bowls - continuing candies

Peppermint Candy Bowls - oven step again after each addition

  8. Allow the candies to cool for 1 minutes, then trim away the excess parchment paper.
  9. Peppermint Candy Bowls - remove from oven

Peppermint Candy Bowls - allow candies to cool for one minute and trim off excess parchment

  10. Spray the bowl with non-stick spray. Then center the bowl on the candies.
  11. Peppermint Candy Bowls - spray bottom of bowl with cooking spray

Peppermint Candy Bowls - place bowl over candies and center

  12. Flip the bowl and candies over and use a pot mitt to gently press the candies around the bowl.
  13. Peppermint Candy Bowls - flip bowl, candies, and paper over

Peppermint Candy Bowls - use potholder to press candies to shape of bowl

  14. Carefully remove the parchment paper and allow candies to cool thoroughly. Then turn the bowl over and separate it from the candies.
  15. Peppermint Candy Bowls - remove paper

Peppermint Candy Bowls - invert bowl right side up

  16. Use a paper towel to remove any leftover non-stick spray in the candy bowl. Then fill it with candies and enjoy!
  17. Peppermint Candy Bowls - carefully remove glass bowl from candy bowl, wipe off any excess cooking spray

Peppermint Candy Bowls - add candies to peppermint candy bowl

  18. The larger and "impatient" variation: I wanted to make a second, larger bowl and decided to see what would happen if I baked all of the candies at once.
  19. Lay out the candies, starting with one in the center and working your way out until you reach the desired size.
  20. Peppermint Candy Bowls - making larger bowl by arranging all peppermints at once

Peppermint Candy Bowls - softening all mints at the same time in oven

  21. Bake the candies until all of the candies are softened, especially the center one. Try not to let the outside ones melt too much. Allow the candies to cool for 1 minute, then trim away the excess parchment paper.
  22. Peppermint Candy Bowls - melded larger candy sheet

Peppermint Candy Bowls - excess parchment paper cut away

  23. Spray the bowl with non-stick spray and center it on the candies. Flip the bowl and candies over.
  24. Peppermint Candy Bowls - glass bowl centered on large candy circle

Peppermint Candy Bowls - invert bowl

  25. Carefully press the candies around the bowl with a pot mitt. I found that the larger bowl needed to have pleats in it to fit properly. Gently pinch them to form the bowl.
  26. Peppermint Candy Bowls - pinch excess candy creating triangle crimped side

Peppermint Candy Bowls - removing paper from larger candy bowl

Peppermint Candy Bowls - larger candy bowl still on glass bowl mold

  27. Remove any excess non-stick spray and fill with candy.
  28. Peppermint Candy Bowls - larger bowl filled with red and green holiday candy

This is a fun way to take Halloween into the holidays. This makes good use of certain candies you probably won't be eating too much of. Little peppermint swirl candies might not be the first thing you grab from a bowl of sweeties, but they are so cute, they deserve to be part of something bigger.
