Tip: Making Watch Batteries Last Longer

Over the years I've loved picking up the cheap watches in dollar stores, Big Lots, thrift stores, and such. I realized if I pull out the little button on side to stop (set) the watch, the battery is turned off. I still have a couple from the 70-80s still going strong.

Tip: Warning: Avoid Citrus Products with Penicillin

This is a tip that my daughter and I learned the hard way. Most doctors won't tell you that penicillin and citrus don't go together. The citrus (OJ or any other citrus) will negate all the benefits of penicillin.

Bug Scoop For Removing Stink BugsMy trick to removing stink bugs is to use an empty Christmas wrapping paper tube. All you need to do is fold over one end, and use that one for a 'handle' Then you can get those crawling, flying pests; just 'scoop' them up.

Caution when Reusing Food ContainersI have a habit of re-using containers from food and drink items. This morning my visiting son yelled to me that the coffee creamer had gone bad. I knew immediately what had happened.

Keeping Costs Down For A PartyWhen my daughter was little, the Dollar Tree didn't exist. I found things at thrift shops and made things. I always made sure it wasn't "age specific". In other words, the streamers, banners, etc. were generic.

Protecting SeedlingsMy sweet grandson always comes over to weed eat in my yard. He cannot tell a weed from a new plant I've put out and has hacked a few of my plants down by accident. Now I cut the top and bottom out of a tin can.

Unravel Rope For Multiple CordsThe long stemmed flowers were all on the ground. There was a need to tie them up a bit, but I didn't have enough of the end of a cord roll to do both. So, I unraveled the tri-cord and then had three separate cords.

"If Nothing Else Works" Cleaning PasteMaking a paste out of whitening toothpaste and baking soda is an easy, wonderful way to tackle some of the things that were hard to clean before I started using it. I get the cheaper whitening paste (or gel).

Combine School Birthday Parties With A FriendA local indoor soccer center hosts parties and was reasonably priced, especially once we split the cost in half! It was a large enough space that both kids could invite as many friends as they wanted.

Dress Up BoxFor kids who like to dress up you can fill up a box of dress up items from a thrift shop. Also add some accessories from the dollar store. You can also find Halloween reduced costumes in stores.

Recycled Bottles As A Sharps ContainersFor quite some time, I've been using old vitamin bottles, pill bottles, etc., to store the lancets, blood test strips, etc., I use to check my glucose levels, until they can be disposed of.

Homemade Colored Bath SaltsI use 3 cups of Epsom salts. Place one cup in three separate bowls. Use 15 drops of food colouring in each bowl; leave one white, also. This can be done in a jar with a lid. Use green and red colouring.

Marking LeftoversJust take a piece of Scotch tape and a black felt marker and write in large letters what is in the container. You can also mark directly on the baggie, so it makes it easy for them to find what they want to eat.

Cookie Cutter Top Pie CrustInstead of merely cut a venting hole or two in the top crust of your pie, try cookie cutters. For example, I have a cat cookie cutter. I used it on the top crust and placed the cats all around the edge of the pie and then filled in to the top.

Storage for Glue GunsI took a wall shelf and drilled holes in which to place my glue guns. The size of the hole depends on the size of each glue gun. I used a round door knob bit; they come in different sizes.

Thrift Stores and Yard Sales For Baby ClothesCheck out thrift stores, yard sales and eBay for baby clothes. When you find them go ahead and get things in larger sizes as well as the current size.
