These photos were taken while visiting my parents one December. The beach was deserted and cool; the perfect day to walk and explore! My husband and I came across these wonderful old Cypress skeletons which reminded me of an ancient, other-worldly realm.

The Crinum Lily -pink lily flowers
The Crinum LilyA neighbor gave me the bulbs for this lily. An ag agent told me its scientific name. And a TF member told me its common name. That name is Plantation Lily. While there is another lily with similar flowers that has the name 'Resurrection Lily', I think this one could well bear that name, too.

Mystery Dove In My Back YardWhen I first spotted this bird, I thought it was a Mourning Dove. Then I realized something was rather strange. It must be some type of pheasant. But no, the way it was walking, the way it was feeding, I decided I was right the first time. It was a dove.

Flora Or Fauna In My GardenWhile walking through my field, I spotted the above creature. I thought 'Oh my goodness! A possum has found one of the rats I buried. It decided the rat wasn't so delectable after all, and left it be. Upon closer examination, I found it to be a mere mushroom.That was a relief.

And while I'm never too thrilled to see the red squirrels, I couldn't resist snapping a photo of this little bandit. I put the camera up to my binoculars and was able to get lots of great detail.

Surprise In My Popcorn PatchLook, y'all. My popcorn is tasseling! I 'bout turned into a popcorn freak when I was doing all that experimenting, trying to get the perfect method for popping corn (I did gain about 15 pounds). I shudder to think how it's gonna be when all this is harvested and in my pantry.

Yoda ToadWhile building a raised bed garden with cinder blocks, we discovered this little fellow trying to blend in with the colors of the block, while at the same time doing his best "Yoda" impersonation. I think he succeeded in both.

Feverfew - mass of flowers
FeverfewFeverfew is a type of chrysanthemum and spreads like wildfire in our garden and we have to weed some of it out, but it is a very pretty plant. It is also medicinal, containing salicylic acid (the stuff aspirin is made of) and therefore said to be good for headaches.

The Pristine Rose In Bud FormI was at the checkout with this reduced by 60%, 'Pristine' rose, when an attractive, very refined lady mentioned that she had been looking everywhere for this particular variety. I told her there were a couple left on a bargain rack. She was ecstatic! Unsure of where she should look, I walked with her to the rack.

The Classic Rose (Dark Desire)I submitted this picture for several reasons. The evening light was just right. The rose was opened to just the right degree. Less and it would have been a bud. More and it would have looked like a cabbage rose. And color. This is the closest I've come to capturing the true red violet color of this 'Dark Desire' rose.

My Rose BushThis is not a real tip, just a beautiful rose with the target rose being the main focus. The bush had several this spring and I like the background being slightly out of focus which emphasizes the target rose well. Hope you like!

Moth Hero - large tan moth
Moth HeroI was walking down the street this evening and I saw this helpless beautiful moth walking on the ground. So I leaned down and to my surprise it walked right onto my hand. At my apartment I checked it out. It's poor wings were soaked and it couldn't fly. So I let it stay inside till it could fly and let it back out.

CauliflowerThis plant was on sale, because warm weather is coming. Cauliflower likes cooler weather. I am hoping that this will get big enough to eat before the hot weather comes in. Fortunately, we have had a cool May and June in NY. This plant likes about 6 hours of full sun and moist soil.

Frog Rock Garden PondMy Frog Rock Garden was an idea that came from renovating our front yard from a flower bed to a rock garden pond when we began collecting river rocks from my late sister's home in Arkansas. I collected ceramic and resin frogs to give the rock garden pond a whimsical look along with placing water pumps in two of the frogs to appear that the frogs were spitting into the pond.

One Cold Wintry NightWe have a big old tree in our backyard. I was busy doing some errands on the back porch. It was quite cold; it seems as if we skipped autumn and went straight to winter. I couldn't help but notice the moon framed through the tree branches. A great reminder that even during the winter nature can still surprise us!

5-Spotted Hawk MothI found this sinister beauty on my front porch bench a few days ago. At first, it was so still that I was afraid it was dead, but when I touched its wing with a piece of paper, it moved. I read on-line that these will make clicking sounds to repel predators, and it might even jump at you.

Dragon Fruit Flower (Hylocereus Undatus)When it is dragon fruit season, you will get to see the beautiful white flowers bloom. The flower is nocturnal therefore the best and only time to see these big beautiful flowers fully in bloom is during the night. They only last a day, which is a shame because they are so full and lovely to see against the green cactus.

Mother GooseOne of my favorite sights of spring is seeing a mother goose protecting her babies under her wing on a cool morning. It's amazing how many babies she can fit under her body. The daddy goose is always standing right next to her, guarding them all.

Beddgelert Wales and its Medieval LegendThis pretty scene was photographed in the village of Beddgelert in Wales UK in the Spring of 2016. The trees you see in the photo mark the grave of a dog called Gelert. This is where the village gets it's name as Beddgelert means "grave of Gelert"

Birds Sitting on the River BankI see these yellow-headed blackbirds every spring. Dozens of them arrive around April all at once and stay for about 2 months, then leave suddenly all at once. I tried to find out what they are by Googling them and it said they are "Yellow-headed blackbirds". So I was right!

Fleur-de-lis (The Lily Flower)You won't find an iris more plain or simple than this. It was about the only one to adorn the flower beds around 1900, before intensive cross breeding began. I still grow it. It's the first of all my iris to bloom, sort of a harbinger of what's to come.

Yellow Two Tone IrisThe iris is such a pretty flower, for most of my life I thought there was no such thing as an ugly iris. One day while visiting an iris farm, I saw such an iris. The pictured iris is not ugly. It's not one of the newer, stunning beauties, either. It's a keeper, though.

Dark Desire RoseMy favorite rose is Kordes Perfecta. I've grown it for several years. I've showcased it here on ThriftyFun. The breeder, Kordes, rightly gave the rose the name Perfecta, and I'm sure, proudly attached his own name, as well.
