Tip: Champagne Cork Crochet Hook Savers

To prevent dropped crochet hooks from rolling under furniture, getting lost in seat cushions, or even under the bucket seats in a car, drill a small hole in a champagne cork with your wine bottle opener and stick the end of a crochet hook in it. When it drops it stays in place.

Glue Dots to Secure Photos to the WallI was working on a really cool photo wall in my room and I just couldn't keep a few of the photos up on the wall. I tried everything from tape to sticky tack. Then I found out that these Elmer's glue dots from Walmart work great!

Recycled Fruit Cups for Ice CubesI love the idea of upcycling, dont you? I have discovered a great use for those empty individual fruit cups or applesauce containers. They make great ice cubes! The cubes last twice as long and I love them. Just wash the empty containers and fill with water. The cubes simply fall out of the cups, so much easier than a traditional tray!

Light Bulb Wattage NoteI purchased a new home that was (sort of) a model. As expected, the builder and contractors used medium-priced light fixtures and low-wattage bulbs. I replaced all the curly CFIs with a yellowish-cast with bright white LEDs. The enclosed ceiling fixtures were somewhat of a challenge; new bulbs had to fit inside as well as not create too much heat.

I recommend not buying a bed frame just yet and place the mattress on the floor temporarily. Allow your child to adjust to their mattress first. Since this mattress is only 10 inches and plush carpeted versus falling off from a bed frame, where you would have to spend more money for side rails.

Magnetic Screen DoorScreen doors are easily $100 & up - not including labor/or any other pieces that may be needed. This magnetic screen would be a cheaper alternative for an average of $20. I purchased mine awhile ago on Amazon. I improvised this magnetic screen door made for a sliding door for a regular door by folding both edges accordion style to fit my door. Then, I secured the all edges (except bottom) with spaced out nails that were included.

Many Stores Accept Competitor CouponsDo you know some stores accept competitor coupons? It will vary depending on store, location, policy, manager but it doesn't hurt to try to ask/use them. I was able to use 20% Harbor Freight coupon at Home Depot and that helped me save some money.

E-Receipts instead of PaperIf you don't want to bring home additional trash (receipts) that will eventually get tossed out or misplaced having the e-receipt option sent to your e-mail is extremely useful. E-receipt is better than not getting a receipt because you can still review your purchase immediately and have your receipt saved encase you need to make a future exchange or return!

Deconstructing a King Size ComforterIt never occurred to me to post this until it was done. So I don't have any before photos. But you all know what a machine sewn flannel comforter looks like. Once I started to save the batting, I realized how cheaply it was made. Basically, one seam ripper in a few key places and it was RIP!

Reusing a Jar from a CandleI received several candles. I don't like candles unless they come in a jar because they drip on furniture and table linens. When my jarred candle blew out, I froze it for about a half hour. The remaining wax popped out, and I put the other candle in. I now have 6 candles that I would not have been able to enjoy otherwise.
