My number one way of being thrifty is buying used every chance I get. Used cars of course, but also used electronics, used furniture and even used clothing.
I've had good luck with buying clothing online and it's one of my number one recommendations to anyone because it's so easy to find a good deal. It takes to determination to find the right used car or the perfect used bookcase - but finding a decent pair of used womens jeans on Ebay or a decent pre-owned denim skirt for less than $20? Much easier! And people go shopping for clothes much more than for a car or furniture.
I've also found that getting people to buy used on a small helps plant the seed for more thrift buying later on. All in all, buying second hand clothing is my primary means of being thrifty and I recommend it to everyone!
