I'm a life-long Pennsylvanian who is now a Texan and I love it. No more winter snow and ice!!! Brutally hot in the summer, though.
My husband and I live in a country-setting subdivision, on an acre of land. We have neighbors but there are swaths of trees and underbrush between us, which is really nice.
I raise Miniature and Toy Schnauzers. We have 12 of them in the house - never believed in "cage kennels" - and they are part of the family. There are so many of them because I refuse to sell retired dogs as many breeders do. We also have several large outside (front yard) dogs as watch dogs, which is advisable in this area especially when the neighbors can't see our place.
My husband and I are retired and not in the best of health but I am trying to get as much of the property work done as I can, such as attempting to stop a roof leak, build a proper floor for a heavy duty storage tent, constant fence repairs.
I also help out a couple of disabled friends as much as I am able, because it could so easily be me.
