All the tasty, fresh, summer fruits and vegetables are available now at your local farmers' markets. I think it's a great idea for us to shop at these markets and support our local farmers. The prices are usually very reasonable, and the produce is fresh. Buy a little extra produce when you see a real bargain to can, freeze, or share with a friend or neighbor.

I wanted to reply to Ness' tip on the farmer's market. PLEASE BE CAREFUL!! Here, in Colorado, we had a problem with produce from a farmer's market this past summer. Some of the produce was found to have ecoli bacteria and some people were ill as a result. Just remind your readers to thoroughly clean everything!! Thanks, Lisa
That was a good tip from Lisa. All produce should be washed regardless of where it was bought. We have a Farmer's Mkt in our town but I have seldom bought there because the prices are sky high. I'm hoping we will go back to growing our own garden this year.
