How do I clean a clogged fabric softener dispenser that is in my washing machine?

Hot water and vinegar run through it.
Is it the removal type that sits on top of the agitator? If so, I would remove it and soak it in hot vinegar. If it doesn't come off, I would pour hot vinegar in it until it is clean.
Mine gets like that and I have to pull the drawer right out of the machine. Have you done that or are you trying to clean it when it's in?
