Create this luxurious accessory for a fraction of the cost of a store-bought scarf. Trimmed with silk flowers or beads, the end result is sheer bliss.
Fold the velvet fabric in half lengthwise with the good side of the material facing inwards. You should now have a double-sided rectangle that is 10 x 60 inches in size.
Pin the long unfinished edge together with pins, leaving a 1/2 inch seam allowance. Hand sew the two sides of the material together along this edge. You can also use a sewing machine if you have one.
Pin one of the short, unfinished edges together with pins, leaving a 1/2 inch seam allowance. Sew the two sides of the material together along this edge.
Turn the scarf right side out, so that the good side of the material is facing outwards.
Pin the last unfinished edge together, leaving a 1/2 inch seam allowance. Sew the two sides of the material together, looping the thread over the top of the edge as you sew to create a finished look.
Sew beads, silk flowers, ribbons or a fringe onto the scarf to dress it up if you like. The scarf in the photo has silk flowers sewn along the border.
