I have a bunch of old coins that have been in a fire I think, because a lot are solid black in color. What can I use to get them clean? Is there a liquid cleaner that I can submerge them in to let them soak and get clean?

I know that some coins are more valuable with the "patina" of grime on them. I would not clean them unless they are recent mintings. If they are older (1960 or older) I would contact a coin dealer and ask them. They probably have a simple solution for you without doing any damage to the value of older coins.
The black is almost certainly tarnish on silver coins. I believe 1964 was the last year for silver coins, so if yours are that old or older, that's what the black is.
If you just want them to look shiny, soak in Coca Cola overnight. If you are collecting them I would suggest contacting an expert. Look in the yellow pages. There should be dealers but also clubs you can contact.
Soak them in vinegar. The white or apple cider. They come out clean and shiny.
