I got bedbugs from my previous apartment, it got treated by Terminex. We moved right after to another apartment thinking they are gone as we were not getting bitten. Now 10 months later, I got bitten maybe a few times, not as bad as before though.
Now we are buying a house in Temecula, CA. What should I do to not bring them with us? We are throwing away all our furniture and mattresses and washing all clothing hoping that will help?

From what I have heard and read about bed bugs it is next to impossible for a private person to get rid of them. Everything I have read says to use a professional exterminator and they usually have to come in more than once. I have even heard that the bugs can get into crevices in wood furniture.
Yes I been doing a lot of research on them even a Terminex guy told me I should throw away my couches before I move, the manager of my apartment will only spray our apartment and the guy said he will have to treat ours and others around us which he won't do so the whole get treated before moving is out the window. Plus, we are throwing away every piece of furniture except my daughters crib and kitchen table because they are mainly in me and my husbands room, I was the one person getting bit. I'm not getting bites anymore, we got our last apartment treated so maybe the poison killed them? So I am washing and drying all our clothes at the hottest temperature and discarding all furniture, bedding, mattresses and rugs, so I'm thinking I should be good as far as taking any with me, hopefully! If not, we'll have to get our house treated asap.
Oh and nothing is impossible, if you want those lil F'rs gone, you can do it, just have to do it the right way, not everyone can throw away all their furniture and just buy new. My friend threw away all her furniture except her daughters bed and she was still getting bit after they moved so they got her room sprayed again. If you can throw away all furniture, bedding and rugs than there is a high possibility you won't take them with you, oh and throw away all mattresses too! While we were infested they said don't travel to peoples homes because they can come with you, but I was told that after I knew anything about them. I went to my moms house, my dads house, my in-laws and my grandparents with mine and my kids clothing and suitcases from our infested apartment and a year later, none of my family has no signs of having them. So as far as them being on your clothes is low, if they are hiding in your furniture and crevices, does not mean they are on clothing because I know from experience from when we were infested. All my families are bb free even after we stayed the night with our suitcases and clothing. Just giving people different views since other people like to scare the crap out of others about it.

I'm getting ready to move. I want to know what I should take and what I should leave behind, so I don't bring them with me. I have bedbugs.

Kerosene will do the job, good luck. (01/03/2010)
I think professional advise would be in order here, but definitely no mattresses, carpets or upholstered furniture. (01/06/2010)

Bedbugs will hide in any crevice including your furniture so you need good professional help, even hotels have a hard time controlling them. (01/21/2010)

Are you informing the new owners or landlord that your place had bed bugs. They will need to fumigate. I would call a professional. I know you should throw out the mattress but it needs to be covered w/plastic 1st. All bedding should be cleaned in hot bleach water. (01/21/2010)

Wash all clothes. Do not take any rugs, bedding, etc. Ditto with upholstered furniture. Definitely seek professional advice. (01/22/2010)
