Try counting your blessings, I know it is an oldie. Sometimes you may feel so overwhelmed by your circumstances that it is nearly impossible to even imagine there is anything to be thankful for, but, if you just start with the first thing you see or that pops in your mind, you can continue from there.
Do you have full or even partial use of all your senses? Can you walk, even with help? There are many who cannot get around at all. If you are one of those, think about all the things that you can do, unaided. Is there fresh air? Running water? Food in your house? Children, grandchildren, pets?
Especially when you compare yourself with others you may have heard or read about in other parts of the world or at other times in history, you probably have a much easier life. Just continue to force yourself to see something good in your circumstances and it's hard to not feel at least a little better.
If I was nearby, I would give you a hug. Maybe there is someone you can reach out to who would love to visit you. Maybe they just need a call from you to know that you need that hug.

My husband (of 54 years) & I have a quiet time every morning to read the Bible & be with God our Father & Jesus Christ our Lord & Savior. Recently when we finish our quiet time, I write down in my notebook what each of us are thankful for that day (just one thing). It's amazing when you go back and read what we have written down and we still have many, many, many more blessings to be thankful for. Will be interesting in a year or two to go back and see the many things that God has blessed us with! May God bless all of you.
That's how we start our day with the Bible and meditation, and I like your idea of a blessing book! Even if we don't have blessings right now and are going through hard time, we can look back and find them in the past. Writing them down is a endless blessing because not only did we receive them once, but we remember them again and again by rereading and rejoicing. They say that reliving good memories is a powerful brain-chemical mood booster. I know that is true.
One time I was waiting for the results of a tumor check suddenly discovered while I was newly pregnant. I asked the receptionist for a paper and wrote down all the blessings God had given me. I sat and praised Him in the midst of a time of facing peril not only for myself but the new life inside me. Our son is now 17 years old.
Thank you for your good daily suggestion of a blessing book! We've been married only 31 years...you're an inspiration!
Katherine, I needed your advise right now. I just got some disturbing news concerning my Daughter and her family. I'm worried sick. I know things could be worse and thank you for reminding me!
What a wonderful thing to remind us all of, thank you!
Counting your blessings is a great way to not only give you something positive to think about but also remind you that you are loved! The blessing book is a great idea, I keep one every year and on New Year's Eve I read it. If you keep only the blessings, you may be overwhelmed with gratitude. I know it has brought tears to my eyes more than a couple of times and remind me that miracles still happen.
Thanks. Needed this today. I thank God with my ungrateful self. I have too much to be grateful for!
