I hate wasting water trying to wash my slimy, messy hands after mixing ingredients (for example, cookie dough or ground beef recipes, or removing meat off a bird). So just before I turn the water on to wash, I take a paper towel or paper napkins and wipe off as much of the mess from my hands and under my finger nails. You'll be surprised how much you remove from your hands, making it much easier to wash the remaining mess.

I keep a second cloth towel on hand for that purpose when cooking. All you have to do is wash that towel with the regular laundry when you're completely done instead of wasting several paper towels by throwing them away.
I always fill a sink with soapy water when I am cooking. I really like Ajax liquid for cutting grease. A quick swish and my hands are clean!
So by saving water, you use up paper towels which destroys more trees.
It only takes one napkin. It's a tip people not the law. Do it or don't.
Lisa/lh311, even some of the best well meaning tips get negative reviews so instead of being upset and letting your feelings get hurt by them; just learn from them :-) I've submitted some tips I thought were really, really good but had horrible reviews. Once I took my personal feelings out of the mix and really read what they were saying with an open mind (and in some cases even researched, for example, reusing plastic for food) I ended realizing they were correct and/or made oodles of sense.
Hi Deeli,
I wasn't at all hurt or upset by the person who left the comment on my tip submission. Just slightly annoyed...it really didn't make any sense. Don't use napkins to save trees but waste a lot of water instead? It's a catch 22. This person assumes I am wasting tons of napkins washing my hands all day when in fact, I use my tip maybe once or twice a month. He/she should take your advise and take their feelings out of the mix and really read what the tip is about. I'm not the least bit bothered to the degree I would keep from submitting more tips. Thanks for your concern though.
Since no one has mentioned this, has anyone thought to use the eco-friendly food service gloves. Most gloves release excess foods like the cookie dough, so you would be saving more of your prepared food product too. That way you would be saving the trees, saving your water and saving the planet all in one.
