Is the Cub Scouts organization for boys always a father/son interaction? My little 7yr old grandson is joining with his dad and wants to have his dad there each time and have it not just be the group of boys only. His dad wants to be involved each time too, so I thought others could explain it a bit better to me. I am not sure if meetings are through the week or on weekends or how often they do meet. Thanks.

When my boys were in grade school, their school formed a Cub Scouts troop. I was a den mother, and hubby helped out a lot, but ended up being more moms and grandmoms helping out. The boys seemed to enjoy it a lot! They can learn a lot from women.
When my 46 year-old brother was a kid, scouts involved just the boys and their den mother (my mom), and occasionally other adults when there would be pack events..
Now, my son is a scout. His troop has two den leaders (both men) and one of their wives who helps out a lot and is very involved, but is not called a den leader. Every boy is expected to have an akela (an adult mentor) with them at every meeting. The akela also will help the scout work on earning badges.
As the boys get older, I don't believe the parents or grandparents are as involved, unless they want to be. Scouts always need plenty of adult volunteers to run things. They need den leaders, committee chairs, treasurer, pack leader, and more. They welcome grandparents getting involved, too.
I also want to add that the den usually meets once or twice a month and the pack meets once a month in what our pack calls a pack party. In our pack, every den leader is a man, but several women hold important positions in the pack and many women are akelas, too. I am an akela and have chaired the cub-mobile derby.
Ask your son if you (and grandpa) could go along to a pack party, and volunteer to chair a committee or ask how you could help out. You will become very popular with the boys and the adults as well!
No. Some fathers can't be there and some mothers are single parents. Normally the cub scouts have a den mother, but not necessarily and meet once a week. Parents do not attend these meetings. Once a month there is a pack meeting and that is when parents attend with their child.
