My room is very, very dull and bland. I have a white comforter, a rainbow polka dotted body pillow, and many stuffed animals. I have lime green rugs and white walls with a Snoopy from the Peanuts poster, and a peace poster. I have shelving with my decorations. On my desk is my black old fashioned stereo. I have a white nightstand and a brown egg chair.
What comforter or duvet would brighten this place up? Please no PBteen or Wake up Frankie. Also, any crafts or decor ideas too brighten the place up? Thank you.

Pick from the colors of the polka dots on your body pillow.
I would use a color from the polka dots and paint. Painting is a great refresher and not too hard to do.
Since I don't really know your style (flowers, bright colors etc.) it's hard to suggest 1 comforter. Here's one I found at jcpenneys which since you said you had lime green rugs and polka dotted pillow. www4.jcpenney.com/
I would also suggest going to your local thrift store. you can find tons of stuff to fill your room for very cheap. Figurines, curtains, maybe even a comforter (and with some good detergent it would be safe to sleep with)
I would start by figuring out what theme you would like to create. When you look through magazines or online catalogs -- what style pops out at you?
Do you like old fashioned country? patch work quilt with many colors, items that have been knit or crochet, things made of wood, etc.
Do you like traditional with elegance? Royal colors of red, purple, blue and gold, embroidery, tassels, fringe etc.
Do you like a purely cartoon theme, or American theme, or military theme, or earthy all earth tone colors theme?
this is the foundation on which you can slowly build once you figure it out for yourself.
I have an old friend who loves Hello Kitty so she decorates her car and anything else she can with Hello Kitty. I myself like a mix of traditional elegance with old fashioned country. Hope this helps.
Once you decide on your comforter/quilt/bedspread --you can choose accessories for your room and possibly paint color(s) and or wall paper and or wainscoting.
Start with a bright, sunny yellow bedspread/comforter and take it from there!
I would go to thrift stores to look for funky, cheap accessories, shelves, etc. You will often find beautiful and colorful hand crochet blankets.
