Forget "good" potatoes; make EXCELLENT baked potatoes. Using larger bakers, scrub clean and pierce several times with tines of fork or sharp paring knife.
With your bare hands, smear a light coating of butter or margarine all over the potato (not melted - the heat of your hands will help with that).

Hi. I just wanted to say that I make mine like this (except the seasoning which I'm definitely going to try), except for the bare hands thing. I can't stand getting my hands greasy so for years now, I put the butter into a plastic baggie then plop the taters in (one at a time), and just move it all around to get it completely buttered.
These cook faster and are even better if you slice them in half lengthwise before buttering and baking. Bake cut side down. Crispy and yummy! It's our new favorite way to make baked potatoes!
