I have a 41/2month old male German Shepherd/Husky mix. Is there any way of knowing if his ears are going to go up his father's are up? One of his brothers has one up, but his are still floppy. When he's laying down they point strait out. Is this any indication just wondering? I heard it can take up to a year before they stand up. Thanks.

If they are not standing up at 4 months they are not going to stand up. But don't you think they are cute just the way they are? So enjoy the fact that you never know what you get in a mixed breed except the best of both breeds. (10/17/2010)

What a sweet angel. I don't think they'll go up. She has fly-away ears! What you see is probably how she will look all of her life. Very aerodynamic. Not to worry, she is totally cute as is. For an answer, ask your vet the next time you visit. An obedience class instructor, people that show dogs in AKC/Rare Breed conformation and Big "B" purebeed breeders are great sources of information and understand canine genetics (or should.)

Your baby is beautiful just the way she is! Unless you plan to have her strictly as a contest show dog there is absolutely no reason to make her ears stand if it does not occur naturally for her.
