This onlly sounds gross to a non parent, but what does the diarreha smell like? If it smells really bad, like rotten eggs it could be roto virus. My boy had it twice when he was a toddler. Both times we had to take him to the hospital because he was dehydrated. As for the rash, go with Buttpaste made by beaudrox (sp). It comes in a yellow tube and is THE BEST stuff on the market. Her rash will be gone within a day. Good luck and I hope she feels better.

I would try taking her off any dairy for a few days. Both of my children developed temporary lactose intolerance after bouts with minor viruses when they were small. The diarrhea caused by their inability to handle milk caused terrible diaper rash! On the advice of a pediatrician I called (not ours, we were away the first time this happened), I stopped milk and all milk products for a few days, and it all cleared up.

We used lactose-free milk and other products for a few months, then reintroduced regular milk to see if they could handle it. Both were fine after that.

Take her to the doctor ASAP. My son was like that when he was little and he needed a prescription cream to clean up the rash. I believe it was a fungal infection.

Please take the child to a doctor. It could be serious. Do not wait.

I was told by a nurse for diaper rash to buy ointment in the baby dept. at Wal-Mart that contains 40% zink oxide. This worked within a day.

About the diarreha, she should be seen by a doctor. This could be very dangerous if not treated immediately. Good luck.

My daughter is 20 mos and never really had diaper rash until she got what you are describing. Her poo looked like cookie dough (sorry for that visual, but it's the best description). It was pale and the same consistency. This was not usual for her. Turns out that I also started getting icky bowel problems and I concluded that we caught a stomach virus from daycare. This has happened to us a few times and the doctor said it's pretty typical and that it runs its course in a few weeks. It did. In the meantime, I just made sure I gave her lots of clear liquids.

Also, I second the recommendation on Boudrouex's Butt Paste (actual name). The yellow tube or there's a green tube. I love the stuff.

A very old remedy for diaper rash is to brown some white flour (cooking flour) in a dry skillet carefully stirring it till browned but not burnt. Cool it then put into a container and use like baby powder at each diaper change. it is soothing and healing. It really works well! try it yourself and you will be telling everyone about it! The diarrhea could be allergic reaction or just an upset tummy, mild plain foods; like mashed banana and mashed potatoes. Stay away from strong flavors and spicy foods. I sure hope this helps you! Take her to her pediatrician before she gets dehydrated, which is extremely dangerous.

My Dr. always prescribes a "BRAT" diet. Bananas, rice, applesauce and dry toast. Nothing that has any grease or oil. Not even butter. You can get Pedialyte at the grocery store as well as Pedialyte popcycles. It is extremely important that you keep the toddler hydrated.

If you have any doubt at all that she is not getting better you should consult with a doctor. And believe it or not, my grandmother always used Crisco on a diaper rash and it went away. Good luck! Banty

If you want to take care of it without drugs just give her over ripe banana. It worked wonders for my children.
