Sift together first 4 ingredients. Add shortening and cut in as for biscuits. Beat eggs until light and fluffy; add milk. Add this mixture slowly to dry materials to form soft dough. Pat out to 1/2 inch thickness on a floured board and cut into pieces 2 inches square. Fold one corner over, making a 3 cornered piece. Brush with milk and sprinkle with sugar. Bake in greased pan in moderate (350 degrees F) oven about 20 minutes.

Combine flour, baking powder, soda, salt and sugar. Cut in butter or margarine. Beat egg slightly with fork and combine with buttermilk and butter flavoring. Stir into dry ingredients lightly with fork. Knead three or four times. Cut into two portions. Pat each portion into a greased pie tin. Bake in 425 degree F oven for 10-12 minutes, or until lightly browned. Serve hot with butter, honey or jam. For a sweeter, very delicious quick bread, add 1/2 tsp. orange flavoring and 1/4 cup raisins to the dough. After patting out in the pie tins, brush the top with a little slightly beaten egg white and sprinkle with sugar. Bake as directed.
