Make a paste of baking soda and water. The light rust should come off very easy with a little rubbing.
Try rubbing with steel wool.
Or use vinegar and salt, that's what I've always used.
Lemon juice!
(1) Wrap the blade in a paper towel,
(2) Pour lemon juice onto paper towel until wet,
(bottled lemon juice is perfect for this)
(3) Press wet paper towel to blade,
CAUTION: Lemon juice likely will stain carbon steel knives, & can stain stainless steel knives. Lemon juice cannot repair any pitting caused by rust. Working with knives can get you cut (obviously); those cuts are more painful when lemon juice is introduced into them.
ALSO: This may or may not work with lime juice, I simply don't know.
