Here are the answers to some common questions we get about using our site here at ThriftyFun.

When I post feedback, why doesn't show up?

If you are posting as a "Guest" your feedback needs to be approved by a moderator before it is posted. Depending on the time of day and whatever else is keeping us busy, it may take from a minute to several hours before the post shows up on the site. Our normal business hours are from 7 AM Pacific Time to 7 PM weekdays. We check the site after hours and on weekends to approve posts but there may be greater delays outside of our weekday business hours.

I've been a guest but I want to be registered, how do I do that? Does it cost money?

You can click on the registration link. Registration is free!

I get the newsletter, does that mean I'm registered?

No, you can be a subscriber without being registered as a user on the site.

When I try to register, it says that my username is already registered. What do I do?

The username you chose is already being used. If you feel that your username is so unique that no one else will have it, use the contact form and tell us the username, your email address and we can check to see if you possibly registered some time ago under another address. You may have registered already and have just forgotten.

Why should I register?

By registering you can use some of the features of the site that nonregistered users can't.

  • All of your feedback posts are credited to you. You can edit them if you find later that the information has changed.
  • You can post a profile about yourself so other readers know more about you. It is anonymous so you only need to tell what would help people understand you, your interests, hobbies, etc. To see a profile, click on the (non guest) username in the feedback post. If you click on Thrifty_Fun you can read my profile.

  • You can send messages to registered members.
  • The messages can be sent to your email address or not, your choice.

I've rediscovered ThriftyFun but everything is different. Am I still registered?

All previous registered folks are in the systems. Click here to retrieve your login information.

I registered but I didn't get the confirmation email.

Click here to contact us and tell us which email address you registered under, we will try to activate your registration.

If I register will I get a bunch more emails?

No, the only email you get as a result of registering is our quarterly update (you can also opt out of that when registering) which reminds you that you have a login with us. Other than that, you can subscribe to one of our newsletters or discussion lists but these are independent of the website registration.

I have a request for information, how do I post it?

You can submit your questions at the Submit a Request, Tip or Article link. Any tips submitted on this form must be okayed by us. We make sure it has a title, etc.

I put my request in the feedback to another post. It isn't showing up as a new request. Why? When you have a request, it is best to use the Submit a Request, Tip or Article link on the site or send it to us through the Contact Form. If you post it in the feedback, we may see and post it as a request but there is lots of feedback and it may get lost in the shuffle.

I am afraid to post because I don't spell very well.

We correct most spelling and punctuation errors as soon as we notice them and if you post seems to be incomplete, we may email you for clarification.

I asked people to email me with answers but my address was changed.

We change email addresses like this: nickname@yourisp.com would be changed to nickname (at) yourisp (dot) com. This prevents spammers that might dredge our site for email addresses. Their robots will not recognize these as email addresses and will ignore them.

What are the Messages in my account.

You can post a message to any registered member of ThriftyFun. This feature hasn't been used much yet but it is a way that you can communicate with other registered members.

I'm worried about SPAM, are you guys spammers?

We pride ourselves on having never sold, traded or shared email address of our users. We've been publishing since late 1997 so your personal information and email address are safe with us.

We encourage our users to not post their email addresses so they cannot be dredged from our site and used by unscrupulous spammers.
