Use Medical Exam Gloves For Messy Tasks

I keep a decorated flower pot on my kitchen counter filled with medical exam gloves. Any time I am going to do something messy with my hands (such as breading chicken, greasing a pan with shortening, tossing a salad, cleaning a pot, etc.), I put on a pair of gloves. They are a lot less cumbersome than the rubber gloves, easy to put on and take off, and readily available.

Great for saving manicures and especially great for preventing the transmission of unwanted germs. I buy mine from an on-line medical supply company.

I would not use medical gloves for food preparation. Many times they have powder inside. They do make plastic gloves especially for food. They are not expensive and are made to be food safe. In fact, I have found them to be cheaper than medical gloves. They go on easy, too. I will stick to the food safe gloves. Thank you.

Why would you want to be so wasteful; all of that plastic going to the landfill? It may be convenient, but I think that part of being thrifty is being a less wasteful person.

The only gloves that should be used for food handeling are food prep gloves. I wonder sometimes if the word about plastics being toxic is getting out. So many people are so quick to use any empty container or product such as these medical or cosmetic gloves for food.

Only use food safe products on food.

To add to the very good comments, medical grade gloves sometimes are latex, sometimes vinyl. Food grade gloves are vinyl and can be purchases quite cheaply. Due to latex allergy, I have to know the difference. And I do have generic 'chore' vinyl gloves to do the messy things with, and food grade gloves aside.

Our state requires posting of note of homemade products when you take them to church, coffee hours, fund-raisers, funerals etc so it is buyer beware. When I prep food for others outside my home, I use food grade gloves.

Some of my 'stuff' goes to people on chemo, etc. So the standard is straight across.

When prepped at the church, public health rules are followed. I volunteer with the youth and involve cooking. Needless to say, all in attendance wear the food grade gloves or they are asked to leave.

Storage: I take a tupperware canister container and put my box full in there. Apply cover and they are clean.
