Repairing Stretched Out Sweater Wrist Bands?

Does anyone know how to keep the wrist bands of a sweater from stretching or better yet, how to fix it once they have stretched? Thanks and have a great day.

When I had sweater sleeves that stretched out, I would find some of that elastic that looks like thread(I don't know if you can buy it anymore) and thread a needle with it and hand sew it through the cuffs of the sweater. I made about 1/4 inch stitches and usually made two rows of it around the sleeves.

Wash or wet the sleeve then blow dry it. Heat shrinks everything.

Wouldn't this only work on wool?

I agree with redhatterb. Use elastic elastic sewing thread. Stitches about 1/4" apart, rows about half an inch apart the length of the cuff. Hope this helps.
