Yes, it will do that.
I love Picasa for that very reason. I have many craft pictures saved on my computer, and sometimes I know that I have a particular picture, but cannot remember where I have it stored. So I just scroll through Picasa until I see it as a thumbnail, and it will tell me exactly where it is stored.
