Here's a photo of my beautiful 16-year-old Tracey. She looks as if she has eyeliner around her eyes and, at times, looks like a gorgeous, exotic woman. I almost lost her last year.
I was visiting my mom 200+ miles away, and the friend taking care of Tracey called to let me know she wasn't doing well. I came home fast and couldn't get her to eat. I finally enticed her into licking olive oil and vanilla yogurt. It was just a tiny bit at a time, but it sustained her until the vet could see her.
She has some type of anemia that can't really be treated and I couldn't afford the transfusion and bone marrow testing. But she has thrived (perhaps the diagnosis was incorrect) and is doing well more than one year later. I continue to give her olive oil and yogurt at times, but she's perfectly all right with her regular cat food.
She is one of four cats I have and is more fragile than any of them, while heading towards her final days, but she still manages to to be the one who's in charge.
I love her with all my heart and cherish every day I have with her. Keep in mind that olive oil seems to be what kept her alive until I got her to the vet. He prescribed steroids, which got her back on her feet, and the olive oil and yogurt played an important part in sustaining her until the steroids kicked in. Keep these foods in mind; they could be a life saver for your cat.

Tracey is a beautiful girl! She reminds me of Pippi, a tabby & white cat I had, who lived to be 18 1/2. I still miss her very much. I'm glad that Tracey has thrived with the care you have given her, & I am saving the advice about olive oil & yogurt in case I should need it some day.
She is beautiful! And reminds me of several I have had over the years! Once, I had 2 friends who had "kittens" and they wanted us (myself & my 7 & 9 year old daughters) to come pick out a kitty! So we went to one house & picked "Brutus". Then we went to the next, and came home with 6 (of 7)... Seven in all & it was a very interesting house for a long time! All I can say is enjoy & "pet a cat"!
You were so smart to do that with the olive oil and the yogurt! What a lovely girl she is!
Blessings, Robyn
What a pretty girl, & healthy looking for her age too!
Can you tell me about how much yogurt you give her? I've been thinking about giving fish oil to my kitty & I may give him yogurt after reading your post. My kitty is nearly 17 & his health started failing when we all left him home last summer while we went to visit family for 2 weeks & took the dog.
To Lyonpridej. I would not give more than 2 heaping tablespoons at a time, maybe 3 times a day. Spread it out so he gets the benefits of yogurt but it doesn't give him the runs.
Keep an eye on things and you'll be able to regulate to suit you and your cat. Tracey is getting the spikey fur now, too. We have a sister from the same litter and they're like night and day! Best wishes for you and yours.
