Making Hot Cereal Without Lumps

No one likes lumps in their hot cereal. We had always boiled the water first and stirred in the hot cereal, cream of wheat, malt-o-meal, grits, or corn meal mush. I've discovered you can avoid lumps if you don't boil the water first, but instead put the right amount of water in the pan then put in the right amount of cereal before turning on the heat. Stir once or twice when it starts to boil and keep stirring until done. For some reason it comes to a boil and is done faster than the conventional way. Enjoy!

Note: This does not work for oatmeal.
