I tried once or twice, years ago, to get into using those bristled vegetable brushes to scrub my potatoes and other veggies. It just didn't work for me. The bristles always wore down entirely too quickly. For years now I've kept a Scotch-Bright scratch pad (the flat kind) on the left side of my kitchen sink. I use it exclusively for scrubbing vegetables. When it gets smelly, I toss it into the washer with the other kitchen items. When it gets too worn, I replace it. Works for me!

Years ago I worked in the Operating Room. The brushes that the surgeons used to scrub prior to surgery were used once then tossed away. I took one of them home to use for scrubbing veggies and I've been using it ever since. The bristles are very durable yet soft enough to not injure the veg. I don't know if that's the same brushes that are used today, but it's worth checking out if you know someone who could get you one.....or two.
Thanks, LeeAnne. I have a daughter-in-law in nursing school, and at least one friend working for our local hospital. I can ask them. JPJ
