Stuck Drawers?

I have a pretty dressing table that is fairly old. Several of the drawers are stuck shut. They have not been painted shut but are stuck because they got damp/wet. I know I need to apply wax to them or sand them once I get them open. But how do I get them open? The dressing table has a back to it and there is wood between each of the drawers so I can't pull one out and see into the bottom drawer. Any suggestions?

I worked at a furniture store once and we would put a light under the piece of furniture to get rid of the moisture from the wood. The next day, it would have all the drawers free and easy to open. Of course, you must have the piece inside in an air conditioned room.

Try WD-40 around the edges.

If the bottom of the coffee table is open -- that is, you can see the bottom of the drawer from underneath the coffee table -- try turning the piece over and gently push on the bottom of the drawer while pulling on the drawer pull. Also try moving the drawer front slightly from one side to the other while you are pushing and pulling (how many hands?!?!?)

I have two drawers that this happens to and usually the forward edge of the drawer front has gotten behind the side of the drawer frame and it has to be maneuvered back into place. Hope this helps!

Put ice in waterproof bags and place around the drawer to cool it and contract the wood. Once the drawer is free, try rubbing either soap or a candle along the runners and sticking areas, this helps make them easier to move.

Put a heater or heat lamp in the room with it pretty close to the drawers after a while they should start to move. Rub with parrafin or wax, soap just about any thing waxy will work to make them glide like new.
