Fabric Purse Faded When Cleaned?

I got a fabric Coach bag not too long ago. I wore my bag to school and I saw a brown stain on my bag. I tried washing it off with soap and water. Yes, it did kind of come off. Now the color of the bag where the stain used to be looks faded. It looks white now. How do I get rid of the faded look?
