WAshington Mutual is the one I like - totally free checking, no minimum balance required. Good luck with your search!
Try a Credit Union. Everyone is usually eligible to join a Credit Union. We have one here in town, that if you have a child or grandchild in school, you are eligible. Many large companies have Credit Unions. Shop around. Eligibilty requirements are loosening up for many Credit Unions.
My husband & I like Bank Of America because it is large & he travels with his job so there are ATM machines all over the country that he can access with no fees. We also belong to a Credit Union but we do not use the ATM machine because of the fees.
I like Bank of America, not only for the service they provide you, but mainly because they have branches in a lot of states.
I switched to Bank Of America about a year ago and I am very happy with them.
If you have direct deposit, there is no service charge.
I especially like their 'keep the change' program.
I'm looking for a bank with no minimum deposit checking account.
Dollar Bank is another one but I don't know if they have branches nationwide.
