Place slices of bread in 9x13 inch pan. Arrange chicken over bread. Mix margarine, salad dressing, eggs, milk, broth, and salt. Pour over bread and chicken; cover with cheese. Spread soup over cheese. Sprinkle with buttered bread crumbs. Cover and refrigerate overnight. Bake at 350 degrees F for 75 minutes.

I am sure this is a good recipe but it is not gumbo. Cake is good and so is meatloaf but they are not the same thing.
I usually like your recipes, but on this one I have to agree with Lilac. That is definitely not gumbo. And I do know what I'm talking about. Even though my hubby and I now live in Texas, we are 100% pure Cajun from South Louisiana. First of all, true gumbo is a soup and it always begins with a roux, as do a lot of Cajun recipes. So, if I were you I would re-name this dish.
We changed the recipe title to Chicken Gumbo Casserole so it is obvious it is not a soup recipe. Thanks for letting us know.
Even though the name has been changed to Chicken Gumbo Casserole, it still has absolutely no resemblance at all to Gumbo. Gumbo does not contain bread, milk, cheese, or salad dressing.
