When I adopted Karma kitty from the shelter, he was suffering with soft stool. First, I tried canned pumpkin, as the vet had recommended it for our dog in the past. Karma gave it a try but was not too impressed.
Next, again on the recommendation of our vet, we started giving him about a tablespoon (he is a good size cat) of plain low or nonfat yogurt each morning. That did the trick. Now after he has given his kibbles fair attention, he sits and waits for his yogurt.
Please note that some pets may be lactose intolerant and the yogurt may cause its own set of gastric problems. I hope that this works for your furry friend.

I take it you meant to say your cat suffered from a hard stool and the yogurt softened it?
Suntydt - Nope the yogurt was in fact used to clear up loose stool. If the stool is loose due to bacterial issues this remedy works well. :)
Hi Barbara,
I am also a Bremertonin! Thank you for your advice with the yogurt! Do you mix the yogurt in Karma's food or give it to him by itself? Just found out my kitty is hyperthyroid and he has come up with diarrhea. He is very difficult to give medications to, I have to take him into his vet to administer medications.
So excited to see this. My cat's (actually my son's cat) stool is driving me nuts - soft and super-stinky; make a huge mess in the litter box (have to clean the whole thing out).
Gave him his first dose tonight - gobbled it right up! Can't wait to see the results.
Sorry that this is too late to help cobalt. But in fact Karma loves yogurt, so I in fact just give him a couple of coffee spoons in a very small dish and he just laps it up.
