Craft Ideas for Camping?

We enjoy camping and would like some ideas on some craft ideas to do while on a 3-5 day camping trip. Recently, we took a 5 day camping trip and made the bowling ball garden ornament. It was a lot of fun making it and now we have a memory of making it while camping. We have made party lights for our camper with flower pots, beads and a light kit.

We are looking for craft ideas that are simple and can be done outdoors on a picnic table.

Any suggestions on craft ideas for campers would be appreciated.

You could do a square knot quilt. Blocks are cut with "fringes" on the edges -and tied together. You just be sure all the knots are on the same side, so one side is smooth and the other is knotty. This works great with denims and polarfleece, and would be a great camping blanket. Pillows can also be made this way - just knot around the edges around a pillow form. No sewing machine required. You can buy kits for this at craft stores sometimes.

Baskets would be fun also - and you can get kits for small baskets from various supply websites, or scouting supply stores.

Since you are outdoors, tie-die would be good, but messy. You could do something as small as shirts or bandannas for each of you - or sheets for camping, curtains, tablecloths for your picnic table.

Mosaic picture frames from found objects around your campground would be easy - cover inexpensive frames with twigs, rocks, etc...

Pressed flowers are a more passive activity - but could lead to a follow up craft later after they are dried.

have a great trip!

I'd enjoy making "twig" bird houses with pods, shells, rocks, and porches with a twig-swing/perch.

Use your imagination, take a couple of small saws, pruning clippers, pliars, nails, plenty of Carpenter's glue, small hammers, pocket knifes, string, and perhaps a variety of spray paints for a "roof" or chimney of pebbles or fossils, and wire to hang it. If made well, you could hide it and then find it again on another trip and see if it's still there, been used, etc. Check for local birds for the size of the "door"

or bring predrilled front pieces to build around?

Also, check the internet for making paper airplanes
and Origami. There are several good patterns and ideas for these crafts.

It's a perfect time for blowing bubbles from solutions, plastic, gum, and punchball balloons!

Making paper kites is great fun if you have the parts and instructions. Check onLine for complete ideas if interested. Use tissue papers, spare gift wrapping, and crepe paper for the tail/trimming. Remember
kite string/holder/spool?/scissors and tapes.Fly them in fields away from trees, or over the water from a pier at a pond/lake/from a boat.

Have a great time. Good luck and God bless and keep you safe.! : )

Good Morning,

How did you make the bowling ball ornament? I would love to try one! Thank you.

Editor's Note: That was a recent craft project for a "Patriotic Garden Ball".

how about bells made out of varying sizes of clay pots? just feed rope through the largest to the smallest and put a large bead at the bottom and you are ready to hang it outside.

how about a pine cone christmas tree? have the wide part of your pine cone as the base and the rest as the branches of your tree...use glitter glue and small beads to decorate.

a twig picture frame. use an old cereal box, cut it into a rectangle, and cut accordingly the size in the middle to fit your picturef. Fnd 16 twigs (on the ground, please dont rip them off the tree) that are similar in size. bind them into groups of 4 by laying them flat and securing rope on the ends (you can glue the sticks together also) then glue them to the card.

start to dip string into the paste then wrap it around
the balloon, add more & more till you have enough
when the string is DRY / POP the balloon and take the balloon out and hook your string things together.
