Consider buying 'gently used' items instead of paying full price at the mall or other stores. Try checking out consignment shops. If you've never been to one, you'll be surprised at the good deals you'll find.

Guess we are lucky to have a great thrift store in our area. My daughter has problems finding jeans that fit her. Hey the thrift store carries a great name brand clothes. This is not just your every day store either. Her jeans cost from $1.50 to $3.00 a pair. I love the bargains we get there. This week she got a cot for camping for $4.00 and a pair of shorts for her son for 45 cents. If your area has a thrift store they should see the one we have here. Great great buys all the time. This one will not take in rags or torn clothing it has to be with lables in them too. Good hunting as i love to shop shop shop.
A great resource is craigslist.org
they have sites for many cities, and people are mostly looking to get rid of things, so are asking very reasonable prices. Everything is local, so you don't have to deal with credit cards (or paypal) or shipping, just cash.
To give examples, I've bought the following through craigslist:
large wood office desk $150 (new retails over $500)
changing table in good condition $10 (new retails $70)
crib mobile $10 (retails for $45)
decorative shower curtain and matching framed pictures and soap pump $20 (New probably at least $60)
craigslist is great!!!
