Before slicing or chopping an onion, put it in the freezer for about 45 minutes. It won't burn your eyes since the liquid will be partially frozen!

You can leave them in the freezer as long as you'd like. They just have to be cooked right when you take them out. It takes a heavy knife to cut them if they've been in long, but it's worth it, just chop and go! No more inconvenient breaks during cooking.
