A proxy is a server that will basically hide your I.P. address. So instead of logging onto Youtube directly you would log onto the proxy server and from there you would go to youtube. People use proxy servers for a variety of reasons. One is it kind of makes your electronic footprint "invisible" and hides your personal information provided you are using a truly legitimate proxy server. Be careful though as now many hackers are getting the bright idea to actually run proxy servers as a way to fool you into giving up personal information.

Also if you are on a network that may block access to youtube, using a proxy server is a way to get around that block because again you are first going to the proxy server and creating a secure tunnel to the proxy before going to youtube. You may want to look at pagewash.com as they have a pretty decent reputation. You can also learn a bit more about about how proxies work at http://unitedbusinesses.net

Using proxy sites to access blocked websites is not the good option. if we are concern about the online security and privacy then we must go for "Hotspot Shield" free VPN (www.accessyoutubefromwork.com/) which is the most reliable solution to access youtube from school or colleges.

In my system it really works fine.
