Hard French bread (or other) can be made fit to eat by putting in the microwave for 30 seconds or so. The bread that is only a little stale can be put in as is. If the bread is VERY stale and hard, then sprinkle some water on the bread to help soften it. And voila! Ready to eat and nice and hot, too.

Great tip! I never knew this... Wish I had back when we were hungry and ended up throwing out a little of the bread that was just WAY too stale to get down. Thanks for sharing!
A good tip to share :-) I do this with bakery baked bagels that get a little hard after a few days.
Wrap one or two slices of bread in a paper towel and heat in microwave for five-six seconds; then, if desired, let cool for a few more seconds to use in sandwiches, for instance. Doing stale doughnuts this way for eight seconds will restore their yummy-ness.
You can also:
Make bread pudding
Dip in soup instead of crackers, or
Dry all the way in a warm oven to make seasoned bread crumbs.
