I've given this as gifts many times and had it confirmed these really are the best cookies ever.
If making for a gift: In a 2-liter jar, layer the dry ingredients in the order in which they appear in the recipe. Cap the jar and decorate with ribbon. Be sure to jot down the baking ingredients below the dry ingredients (butter, eggs and vanilla) and the recipe below, and include it as part of the gift.
Combine the unsalted butter, eggs and vanilla and mix in a large bowl. Add dry ingredients and mix well.
Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.
Roll cookie dough into 2 inch balls. Bake for 6 minutes on ungreased cookie sheets. These cookies turn out best if a little underdone.

I just finished making a batch of these, they are simply the best oatmeal cookie I have found. My children do not like nuts in cookies and they devoured these. Thanks!
