The best thing I have found is to keep the onions in the refrigerator until you need one. The colder the onion is the less you'll cry. Peel them under cold water.

Peel onion under water. When ready to slice, run a small piece of bread, cut through the middle, up on the blade next to handle. The bread will help absorb the fumes.

also...if you only cut off the top of the onion and not both ends before you cut...you will not cry!
If you cry when you cut onions try this. Get a bowl of cold water and put your onion in the bowl with water and cut it. Your eyes will thank you and not even know your cutting a onion.

Apparently holding a pencil or spoon (sideways) under your tongue while peeling onions stops you from crying.
i wear swimming goggles when i cut onions. people will stare, but they'll get a good laugh and your eyes will thank you.
When onions make you cry, place your wrist under cold running water. It works!
Before cutting onions, wash it first then peel it and wash it again, then cut them. Guess what, your eyes won't water.

Just cut an onion under cold water the colder the tempurature the less the onions natural gas will affect your eyes
Try chewing gum! It works!
i like to lick the onion first....that makes you not cry
hold a mouthful of water in your mouth when cutting and hullo, no more tears al. works with wine to!
The only one that succesfully works here is the cut the top of the onion off . Looking at the scientific structure of onions this would make sense.
if these hits don't work try this, have a mouthful of vinegar
any kind and chop after swallow the vinegar and well-a no tears.
Holding my breath seems to help a lot. And when you need to breathe, you go somewhere without the onion smell. exhale. inhale.. and you are back to work. no more tears
Keeping your mouth closed, cut the root end of the onion first- continue keeping your mouth closed while peeling and slicing- your eyes won't water!
reason behind crying when we cut onion is vapor released while cutting onion gets contact with eyes and becomes sulfuric acid which irritates our eye so we cry.
Solution: wear ski goggles or some king of eye protection :)
- Put onion in freezer for 30mins before cutting
- suck on mint lollie
- wrap slighty damp clothe around mouth and nose
- breath through mouth
- stuff nose with tissues
- light candle or zippo near you
- wear goggles, ski mask or sunglasses
- put head in freezer every now and then
- cut the roots out of onion in a cone shape before you start chopping
- move away from onion to breathe
Freeze the onions first
It said to chew a gum when you cut a onion. I think it will work.
Chewing Gum will help. Squinting or wearing goggles will help. I really don't reccomend squinting though lol
I've never had a problem when onions are being cut/peeled. I sit in front of the TV drinking beer while my wife does it!
Put a piece of wheat bread in your mouth! IT WORKS!
This is guaranteed. Purchase pre-cut onions at the store!
Well I tried the bread one and it worked until the bit in my mouth went all soggy and fell on the onion. That's when I gave up.
The best way I've found to chop onions is to cut them under water in a small plastic bin. Just make sure the onion is submersed and you will have *no* problem.
Try cutting with glasses on with a piece of bread in your mouth. and as soon as your eyes start to water pop your head in the freezer for 30 seconds.
you look like a fool but it honestly works for me.
I'm the butt of the jokes when I cook though :(
Oh Well.

Putting the onion in water and cut the onion in the water should help try it! :P :) :( :D <3
Try to keep a slice of lemon in your mouth! It turns it into acid and you don't cry. :P ( You can trust me because I love to watch National Geography Channel and Discovery):P :D
Try having candles around you. I've heard about it.
