I chose cotton yarn for this cell phone carrier because it is easily washed. If it's for someone who won't get it dirty, you could make it with one of the fun yarns that are on the market now.

Using a strand of each color yarn, ch 25
Finishing
Using a contrasting yarn embroider hi, hello, musical notes, or any other design on each piece.
Using the contrasting yarn, with wrong sides facing, dc them together around the sides and bottom.
Make a loop of the strap and connect it to one upper corner.
