Skin Care Advice?

I am 40 and have combination skin. My skin tone is spotty and rough on and near the cheeks. I am having a hard time finding cleansers that don't make me breakout, and foundation that doesn't make me look caked and just down right awful. Help? Please.

I have the same problem and just recently discovered Aveno products for my face. I use the calming cream for daily use. It calms the redness and evens out the skin tone over a few days. Then when I want a light foundation I use the Aveno tinted facial lotion and set it with cover girl smoothers press powder. Good luck!

SusLuvsVintage,
Thank you! I have spent so much money on expensive products that haven't worked. My son uses Aveeno on his Eczema and it works. I guess I never thought about facial products from Aveeno.

I really like the Olay products, they work so well. And they have a makeup out now that combines Olay with your foundation and it covers really well and looks natural.

I can't help you with the foundation (don't wear any myself) but have found that one of the longest lasting, most versatile and inexpensive facial cleansers is Noxema.
When I was a teenager, my grandma told me that used to use it when she was growing up. I followed suit after noticing that she had very few wrinkles (even at her death at age 80), the softest skin, and a truly enviable complexion.
You simply rub a small amount onto your moistened face and wipe it off with a wet washcloth. If your skin tends to be dry, you might also choose to add a light moisturizer (or more Noxema) after drying off.
Noxema is also very soothing for tired muscles and sunburned skin and is sold in "sensitive skin" formula.
Worst case scenario: You spend about $4 for something with multiple uses that will last for a long, long time.
Best of luck!

For the skin care try going on the internet and buying cold processed olive oil soap this will make you skin smooth and not irritate like store bought soap next go to your local dollar store and buy some vitamin e moisturizer and apply it at night before you go to bed. This will make your skin soft ans supple for the make up i recommend Mabeline. I think its the best on the market and the price is reasonable. It's a good product and has sunscreen in it.

I'm in my fifties and my skin is getting much drier now but I had combination skin most of my life. If you have a moisturizer that agrees with your skin. I found the best foundation is to mix a little bronzing powder with my moisturizer in the palm of my hand till I get the right colour and use that instead of foundation. Won't make your skin break out because all you are using is moisturizer anyway with the boost of a little colour!

I would definitely recommend trying Dari Natural's Herbal Facial Cleanser. It's all-natural, made from organic castille soap and doesn't cause any irritation or break outs. I have a very sensitive skin too. But this product is amazing!

I am looking for some new skin care items and would like to know your experiences with products. I'm 36 and the three biggest issues I have are: dark circles under my eyes, dryness and starting of under eye wrinkles, and some bags (I do use an eye moisturizer) and sallow, uneven skin tone. I use sunscreen every day and do avoid the sun. I've tried so many products and haven't found anything that I "have to have" so any advice is helpful!

I have exactly the same kind of skin as you. One thing that really affects the under eye bags is going without coffee. I learned about this connection from the Perricone Promise skin improvement program. I love coffee, so I have a problem with giving it up forever, but when I have a special event coming up, I give it up for at least three days. It's amazing what a difference it makes. (04/22/2007)

Exercise really helps my eyes and the skin around them to look better. So does plenty of sleep! Also, do you smoke? If you can quit, you will do your looks a world of good and save some money to boot. (04/22/2007)

You might check out hyaluronic acid at the nutrition store. Vitamin World has a computer you can use it to give you lots of info. As we get older, our bodies don't make as much hyaluronic acid as when we're young, so our joints get creaky and our skin sags. Oh happy thought - you can buy it in a bottle and it's not that expensive. (04/23/2007)

I would go to MaryKay.com and find a consultant near you. I'm 45 years old, but my skin doesn't look like it, because of the wonderful MK products. You can probably find a good system with other brand names, but the key is to purchase a system of skin care products and let them work together. This is important! Look for the ones that help with the aging process. This is the best investment you can make, to take care of your skin. (04/24/2007)

Look up the web site: www.aloetherapy.com and read about Aloe Vera based products. They are great and everyone knows the power of Aloe Vera and how good it is for your skin. (04/25/2007)

I use the NZ brand range Trilogy. My skin was dry and flaky, and by using their 'Energizing Face Lotion', my skin was so soft, smooth, silky and now it's glowing! At night, I moisturize my skin with pure Extra Virgin Olive Oil - it works extremely well on dry skin and I wake up with smooth, soft skin.

Also, try out 'Trilogy Eye Contour Cream', it works very well as an eye cream. It makes my eyes look more awake and works well on dark circles, crows feet, and dry eyes. And the best bit: It's all natural, so no yucky chemicals are touching your face - oh, and it's affordable.

Dark circles under the eyes? String beans people, daily, fresh steamed not canned or frozen. Make soups, salads, side dishes, even quiche'. However you can get them in your system daily. Cucumbers and vitamin e before bed. Not a quick fix but do this faithfully and in two or so weeks you will see the difference. Get some rest. We all know a lazy muscle droops. Be blessed.
