Are Hardwood Floors Sealed?

I just moved to a house that has hardwood floors, but I don't know if they are sealed or not. How do I know? Also how do I clean the floor? I refuse to waste money using a Swiffer. Is there a less expensive way?

My Swiffer is the best money I ever spent, and I don't buy the replacement cloths. I use a paper towel or one of my well-loved cleaning rags. I love how effortless it is to clean a floor now. Try one at a friend's house, it's a light little thing, it's all you need!

You can also use a microfiber cloth-usually available at Walmart for $2,in place of Swiffer cloths. Secure it to the pad with rubber bands, or ponytail bands on each end. Then you can use whichever floor cleaner you like.

If you use the microfiber cloth. Do not use fabric softener or dryer sheets when you wash them, as this interferes with the scrubbing ability.
