The most important thing my family does to stay healthy during the winter is to wash our hands with plenty of soap (not anti-bacterial) and hot water. The first thing my children do when they get home from school is wash their hands. Hand sanitizers are readily available in the schools - and are o.k. when a sink is not available - but they have been proven not as effective as plain old soap and water.

You'd think this was common sense, but apparently not. I don't like to think about how many people use public restrooms and walk out without washing their hands. Eww! I think it was Dr Frank Oz or Isadore Rosenfeld who suggested singing a little ditty like "Twinkle Twinkle, Little Star" or the birthday song to yourself to time your scrub. Each of those is about 30 seconds, the time necessary for maximum germ-killing. Me? I hum the Jeopardy "think music." :D
Have you ever thought about how dirty money is? How many hands has it been through? It's funny to me that people go to fast food restaurants, pay for their food with that nasty money and then sit down and eat with their fingers.
