Cathy is absolutely correct; Preparation H Cooling Gel is a high concentration of witch hazel extract and is extremely effective on poison ivy, oak, sumac, and insect bites.

The regular kind works well on face/arm/back pimples reducing redness and swelling of a minor breakout. Just be sure that the tube is only used for that purpose and if you need the prep h for the intended purpose have a separate tube just to be safe.
The advice came from a fashion magazine years ago and was confirmed by my PCP to be ok to use (for me, check with your doctor to make sure it is ok for you).
The only caveat from the md is do not use for more than a few day at a time and to check back with his office if the breakouts persist or if there is any redness or warmth to the site as frequency can be an underlying problem and red/warm a sign of infection. Either may need medical care.
