Apple Spice Syrup

Bronze Post Medal for All Time! 203 Posts

I love maple, but this is different for a change.

Ingredients:

  • 1/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 Tbsp. cornstarch
  • 1/4 tsp. ground allspice

  • 1/4 tsp. ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp. ground nutmeg
  • 2 cups apple juice or cider

Directions:

Combine the brown sugar, cornstarch, and spices in a saucepan and mix well. Add juice and stir over moderate heat until the syrup boils and is slightly thickened. Cool slightly before serving.

What do you serve this own? I would hate to make a batch of this and no one eats it. My grandkids hate the smell of vinegar! So will it have the vinegar taste and smell? I normally give them a teaspoon of vinegar to keep them from getting strep throat, so they know the taste and smell.

Thanks so much for posting this! I used to make this all the time. In one of my many moves, I lost the recipe. I don't think my daughter even remembers eating this on her pancakes or french toast or on a baked apple.

Many times thanks! It will make a great gift for her and me to see if it brings back memories.
