This is a fairly healthy bar and is convenient when you have invited someone to your home because you can make these the night before and then just pop them into the oven in the morning.
*Can use plain yogurt in place of buttermilk
Topping:
Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish. Combine flour, oats, baking powder, baking soda, salt and cinnamon in a medium bowl; set aside.
Combine sugar, brown sugar and butter in large bowl. Beat with mixer at low speed. Increase speed to high and beat well. Blend in eggs and buttermilk. Gradually add in flour mixture, stirring until just blended. Fold in apples. Pour into greased pan. Spread topping over top and wrap and refrigerate overnight.
The next morning preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Uncover pan and let stand for 30 minutes. Bake for 45 minutes or until the toothpick comes out clean.

This is from original poster. I left off that you bake these for 45 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean. Sorry!
Think something's missing: how long do you bake this?
This sounds wonderful. Do they keep well and/or have you ever tried freezing them? There are only 2 of us at home now so it would take a while to eat all of them.
Thanks for clearing up the baking time. Now, what about the topping. I'm assuming we just spread it on top of the mixture before baking, like crumb topping on a pie.
Yes, you do spread the crumb topping on the top and you bake them for 45 min. or till toothpick comes out clean. I am very sorry that I was careless editing it.
I think they would freeze well but have never tried freezing them as I usually make them for company.
Thanks for correcting the recipe. I'm looking forward to making it.
